Berliners have been overwhelmed by messages of solidarity on social media after a driver rammed a truck into a crowded Christmas market in the heart of the German capital killing at least 12 people and injuring nearly 50.

Police believes the truck "was intentionally driven into the crowd".
Using the hashtags #PrayforBerlin and #IchBinEinBerliner -- meaning "I am a Berliner" and also a reference to the famous speech made by John F. Kennedy in 1963 -- Twitter, Instagram and Facebook users have been sending messages of love and support:
